Live Effects WelcomesLive Effects would like to welcome Jesse Heinig from Dying Kingdoms.
Jesse has decided to join Live Effects in developing a new series of events based upon the Steampunk Genre. Please feel free to discuss these new events here! Live Effects also wishes to extend a thank you to Rory with the Orange County Fighters Guild, who has agreed to demonstrate and perform practices based upon the Live Effects ruleset. Thank you to you both! Look forward to news of these events in the future, plus many more exciting Live Effects events coming soon. -Ira

Re: Live Effects WelcomesSome more answers to questions you may have!
"Why are you starting another game now?" The southern California LARP schedule has actually cleared significantly this year. Wyrd of Avalon is only scheduled to run two events. Laneque's Chaos won't have its next event until August. Eidolon is on hiatus until August. Beyond the Veil is running catch-as-catch-can. ApocaLARP is waiting for an opportunity to arise from the ashes, phoenix-like. As a result there's actually a lot of space in the upcoming months. "What kind of game is this going to be?" As the title indicates, this will be a steampunk game. If you are familiar with the computer game Arcanum, the novel Perdido Street Station, or the RPG Castle Falkenstein, you have a good idea already of what you'll see. The game setting will be an alternate history of the Earth in Victorian times with anachronistic steam technology, magic, and nonhumans. Characters will experience Victorian sensibilities, top hats and coats, evening operas, locomotives, steam-powered adding machines, flying contraptions, and luminiferous ether! "Is this part of the overall Live Effects universe?" Yes. Because of the nature of the game, of course, certain elements may not transfer to other settings - steam-powered ornithopters and ether resonance ray guns likely won't function in Beyond the Veil or Wyrd of Avalon. Tags for such items will have a special label that indicates the type of technology it uses, so you'll know what you can take (basic guns and explosives) and what you can't (devices working on electricity, steamtech, and etheric resonance). Conversely, you may play characters from other Live Effects games in this setting, but keep in mind that the social mores and technology will create some very significant divergences. Also, characters native to the setting will have an easier time interacting with its anachrotech and its secret societies. "Are you still going to run your Dying Kingdoms game?" Yes. Dying Kingdoms has a schedule prepared in advance for the entire year. It will continue to run as an independent fantasy game. "Who is on staff for this game?" At present, the usual Live Effects staffers are helping with concepts and organization. As the game development becomes more complete, expect an all-call for regular staff assistance. "What sorts of events will you run - day games? Overnights? Conventions?" The current plan is to start with day games in order to generate interest. Thanks to the nature of Victorian social events, this game setting is much more conducive to indoor affairs, which means that you can expect to see events held at conventions, in hotel space or perhaps even in theaters. There will still be camping events in the future. "Can I play an airship pirate, a steam-powered automaton, a faerie courtier, a steamtech inventor, a holy figure, a world traveler schooled in Tibetan mysticism, or a space alien?" Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, and no. "When do we start?" A first draft setting document and rules addendum should be available by April.
Re: Live Effects WelcomesSounds awesome.

You live in the Here now! We can rehearse and do this! Oooh! We could be mechanical clockwerk operatic performers! AWESOME. Divination Skill? Who needs points in it when you can just do it RL? With a CLOW DECK?!
All hail Reznor, lesser Tain of Fire.
Re: Live Effects WelcomesWoo hoo!!!
I know several people running one off Steampunk LARP games in the area (and a few campaign styles in other states), but to have one in SoCal doing it formal campaign style....excellent. Can't wait to hear more on this. I've got some props. Woo hoo!!! Cheers! In the immortal words of Socrates...."I drank what?"
Coffee....it's what's for breakfast. Now with Peeps!!! "Who is John Galt?"
Re: Live Effects WelcomesI can't wait for the SteamPunk Game. This genre is something I have gotten very interested in in the past year.

Re: Live Effects WelcomesTo hold us over til it kicks off:
At the end of the day some are living and some are dead...may they all remain that way.
Re: Live Effects WelcomesI am so very for helping you in any way I can in this.
Bravo Bravo! It simply bothers me, its not right at all,
That so many should love the spring, In place of the Fall.
Re: Live Effects WelcomesSlight delay in the setting packet since my computer just died (I'm using my roomie's laptop to post this). This, naturally, puts a crimp in my ability to write stuff.
Re: Live Effects WelcomesOuch! Much sympathies and understandings, Jesse. Been there, hated it. Good Luck getting everything back in order!
Re: Live Effects WelcomesComing soon!
I provided a capsule description to Ira for the Gathering. I'll be at the Gathering promoting Dying Kingdoms, of course, but I will also be able to answer some questions about this upcoming game setting. I have finally managed to get back on track with the world guide for this game! Welcome, soon, to the Baroque Age, the era of handlebar mustaches, corsets, aetheric ray projection apparatuses, steam-powered oscillatory vibration engines, and more!
Re: Live Effects WelcomesDoes this mean we're all going to be baroque-en? *hides*
At the end of the day some are living and some are dead...may they all remain that way.
Re: Live Effects WelcomesIf it ain't baroque, don't fix it.
A warrior priest and a pacifist priest walk into a keep. The warrior priest says "Get out of my way" and the pacifist priest says "no." ...and there's no punchline.
Re: Live Effects WelcomesI may actually make a PC for this ....i live steampunk, or at least victorian punk
